There Is An Increase in QR Code Scam During Joyous Occasions

Scams involving QR codes are becoming more common, especially during the holidays when more people utilize them for payments and online shopping.

Scammers take advantage of this trend by making fake QR codes that direct gullible visitors to harmful websites or force them to download software.

The increased marketing efforts around the holidays are being used by scammers to prey on gullible customers.

QR code scams on the rise during festive celebrations

There is expected to be an increase in financial fraud and fraudulent transactions as the holiday season draws near. 

Online financial fraud instances have increased significantly, according to The Future Crime Research Foundation (FCRF), a non-profit business connected to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. 

Approximately 77.5% of cybercrimes in India include one-time passwords (OTPs), debit/credit card transactions, QR codes, etc.

Therefore, remember to be cautious when scanning, double-check the source, use a trustworthy QR code scanner software, and double-check the URL to prevent falling for QR code fraud.
