X-Men Comics No Longer Have QR Codes After Outcry From "Unhappy" Fans
After "unhappy" fans complained, Marvel removed QR codes that linked to bonus pages in its X-Men books. This marks the end of a discourse that began when the line relaunched earlier this year.
The announcement appears in this week's edition of Brevoort's typically superb newsletter. He answered a fan's question concerning the lack of a QR code in Storm #1.
After expressing concern about why Dazzler #1 included a QR code linked to a bonus page on the Marvel website but Wolverine #1 did not, the fan also stated that they "ended up not picking up a few books because of missing pages."
X-Men Comics No Longer Including QR Codes
Brevoort began his statement by emphasizing that these are not "missing pages." That has been supported online by authors and artists participating in the book.
While your mileage may vary on whether the additional pages linked by QR codes were necessary to the current story or not, they were not included in the initial page count. Instead, Marvel paid the creative team for an additional page beyond what they would typically receive for creating the issue.
Nevertheless, following the initial outrage from fans when the QR codes were released in July's X-Men #1, the initiative was discreetly discontinued a few months ago.
So, there you go. QR codes will no longer be available for use! As previously stated, the QR code pages that were made available online will most certainly be included in any future trade collections.
