Chandigarh's Liquor Bottles Will Include a Batch Number and Barcode Soon
The UT Excise and Taxation Department has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the employment of a project management consultant to offer services for the creation of a "track and trace system for manufacturing, transportation, distribution, and consumption of liquor in the city."
Owing to the low price in the city, booze being smuggled into regions like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, and Gujarat had been intercepted numerous times.

According to a department official, the barcode and batch number on liquor bottles and cartons will provide all relevant details, including the maker, date, and other components.
After receiving the RFP, financial bids would be launched on June 8 to select the business that would repair the barcode and batch numbers on the liquor bottles.
Additionally, the department has deployed ex-servicemen at each of the city’s 12 bottling plants.
It has also filed lawsuits in the last year against 10 retail vendors and 4 bottling plants for breaking the requirements under the applicable provisions of the Excise Act.
