The Better Business Bureau (BBB) advises consumers to exercise caution due to a recent fraud that has been happening in the neighborhood.

One person gave money to an unidentified source as a result of the fraud, which uses a quick response code, or QR code.

The BBB claims that scammers may easily use QR codes as a means of promptly accessing websites and information.

Regional director of the Quincy Better Business Bureau Don O'Brien cautions consumers to be careful while utilizing QR codes.

"If you have an older loved one, or even somebody younger, that is unaware of the QR code and what the possibilities are that it can do, ensure that you tell them about that since once you use that QR code for let's say a crypto ATM, and you connect to that file, it is like putting cash right in their wallet," O'Brien advises.

The QR code leads to an entirely different website, therefore he claims that parking meters may also be used in frauds.

He advises getting in touch with the BBB or a local law enforcement office if you believe you are being defrauded.
