A New Ad Format on Google TV Displays Giant QR Codes [Annoying]
There's a lot to enjoy on the Google TV platform, except for the steady flood of advertisements. The platform has been putting ads on the home page for a long now, and the situation has become worse over the years.
According to 9to5Google, big QR codes are put next to the ad for a Range Rover on the screen, which may be opened to show the QR code on its own, where Google TV says that users may “scan the QR code to visit the advertiser link.”
In this case, the link is to YouTube. However, it could potentially be used for any website. Also, it is reported that this new style is utilized with an Xbox ad on Google TV.
Google TV ads now include giant QR codes
The new style undoubtedly catches attention and has the potential to serve customers better, but its large size makes it feel a little clumsy in the overall user interface.
Ironically, this update appears just as Google TV surveys more people about the number of ads on the home screen.
Have you seen the new QR codes in Google TV advertisements? What are your thoughts?
