QR Code Payment Acceptance Will Rise, While Payment Card IC ASPs Will Have Limited Growth
As 2025 begins, there are several predictions about the technological advances that will take place in the next year.
ABI Research, a worldwide technology intelligence business, released a whitepaper titled 101 Technology Trends That Will—and Won't—Shape 2025.
ABI Research experts identified 54 trends that will affect the technology industry and 47 others that, while generating a lot of speculation and commentary, are unlikely to move the needle over the next year.
In the Digital Payment Technologies field, QR code payment acceptance will expand in 2025, although payment card IC ASPs will not grow much.
QR code payments will increase by 2025
Although QR code payment acceptance is widespread in countries such as China and expanding in emerging digital payment markets such as India, use cases and potential development areas are not limited to these regions.
With major and ongoing investments by suppliers such as PayPal, Stripe, and SumUp, 2025 will be the year when the technology begins to transition from specialized to the mainstream.
In terms of payment IC ASPs, despite pricing pressures returning, the cost of payment ICs is still some years away from matching pre-COVID-19 levels.
Although 2025 will be another year of price depreciation, it will not be until approximately 2028 that prices are predicted to fall to levels comparable to those obtained in 2019 gradually.
