Branston, one of the most popular food brands in Britain, is improving the shopping experience of its consumers in large UK supermarkets by utilizing the Orca Scan GS1 Digital Link technology.

This new Digital Link QR code, which is driven by the GS1 Digital Link standard, may appear familiar, but it ushers in a new age for the global retail sector.

In order for this to function, billions of tangible items must be connected to the internet and given individual home pages that may be altered by brands long after the product has been manufactured.

Why then is this important?

Sunrise 2027 is the date that the retail sector has set for switching to 2D barcode acceptance at point-of-sale (POS) and point-of-care (POC).

At this time, GS1 Digital Link QR codes will replace the conventional 1D barcodes that are now used on packaging.

Additionally, until 2027, all companies' products must include the current 1D barcode to enable the updating of computer systems around the world to accept the new GS1 Digital Link QR code.
